POSTURE CORRECTIVES APPROACH
Correctives are specific exercises we subscribe for, not only posture but any muscle imbalance or asymmetry, no matter what the cause. All of us are fighting gravity, plus there may be many other contributing factors causing faulty movement patterns such as lifestyle, sitting, illness, injury, and or surgery. The body works as one unit and if a single part of the link is overworking or under working, then movement and range of motion is affected. The body’s natural tendency to adapt and automatically go to the path of least resistance causes compensation and distortion to take over. Unless there is intervention or prevention, eventually the weak link will break and show up as pain or injury. Therefore, we all have to include correctives in our life forever.
A common example is the rotator cuff. 17 muscles are connected to the shoulder blade and when we sit or hunch over a computer, the muscles in the back shut down either due to lack of use or constant use. The muscles in the front tighten and shorten all leading to weakness. Of course, the core and pelvic orientation have everything to do with our posture, so we always look at that functionality and have many ways to address weakness and malalignment. Left unaddressed, dysfunction here can manifest in many ways and not necessarily where the pain is emanating. Figuring out what and where is the root cause, is our mission. The good news is that many issues can be prevented if caught in time. The key is to start at your current level and progress safely and efficiently from there. This is why our philosophy is the posture correctives approach. Having a solid foundation is critical for movement efficiency.
